Material needed to play golf
Golf is one of those games where you can spend thousands of dollars on equipment if you want to. However there is no reason that you have to do this. You can get a basic set of clubs and the other equipment that you need for a couple of hundred dollars which is probably the best option when you are first starting out.
The obvious thing that you have to have if you are going to play golf is clubs. When you are first getting started with the game it is not generally necessary to go out and buy your own set, you can borrow them from a friend or you can rent them at the golf course. Your first set of clubs should be fairly basic and only include the clubs that are commonly used; as you get more experience you can add additional clubs. A basic set of golf clubs will include a driver and a three wood as well as 3, 5, 7 and 9 irons. You will also need a pitching wedge, a sand wedge and a putter.
When you decide that it is time to get your first set of golf clubs you are going to want to make sure that you get help from a professional. Golf clubs these days are made out of several different materials which can have a different effect on how the ball will travel. When you are first learning the game there is no need to buy an expensive set of top of the line clubs, you do however have to make sure that they fit properly. A professional sales person will be able to make sure that you get clubs that are the right size.
Once you have golf clubs you are going to need a bag to carry them in. This is another case where there can be a huge variation in cost. There are golf bags that have all kinds of features that will allow you to carry everything that you could possibly need for a round of golf. As a beginner you are going to want to stick to an inexpensive basic golf bag.
The last thing that you need in order to play golf is some balls. When you are first learning to golf expect to lose quite a few of them. There are water hazards and forests that you can lose your ball in and most beginners should expect to lose about five or six balls a round if not more. Therefore you are going to want to start your round with at least a dozen balls. Golf balls are another area where you can pay top dollar to get the best quality balls if you want to. However since most beginners can expect to lose several balls a round you are probably going to want to stick to the cheaper balls until you get good at the game.
